Scope Purchase Fraud Alert for FFL’s

Avoid Fraud Scope Purchases Online

THERE HAS BEEN A HUGE SPIKE IN FRAUD PURCHASES OF SCOPES ONLINE.

MERCHANT PROCESSORS ARE RECOMMENDING THAT YOU NOT SELL SCOPES ONLINE AT ALL WITHOUT VERIFICATION THAT THE PERSON IS REAL.

BEST PRACTICES:

1. NEVER SHIP TO UNVERIFIED ADDRESSES

The chances of you getting a chargeback increases exponentially on a purchase where the shipping address differs from the billing address of the card used.  If at all possible, you should never ship to an address that is different from the billing address.  If you apply this business practice, it has proven to protect you from the potential fraudulent purchases that seem to be plaguing this industry.

2. ENSURE CERTIFIED DELIVERY

We highly recommend certified delivery for any merchandise that is over $100 since any thieves that are looking to steal from you will completely avoid buying if you require certified delivery.  Be smart about your business and you can save thousands in potential losses.

3. VERIFY THE PERSON SIGNING FOR DELIVERY IS THE PURCHASER

Require signature for any products over $100.  By requiring a signature upon delivery, many thieves will forgo the potential risk of getting caught and will simply not buy from you.  But that is a good thing since they are always making purchases with stolen credit cards which means you will get a chargeback anyway.

4. REQUIRE DRIVERS LICENSE OR OTHER ID AT TIME OF DELIVERY

Lastly, if you require a Drivers License to be presented upon delivery, this will almost completely ensure that anyone who is able to get past the previous 3 protections, will ultimately lose when that item is attempted to be delivered.  Either they will be stupid enough to hand over their DL upon delivery which will get them caught and send them to prison, or they will decline the delivery which means you get your merchandise back.

Here at FFL Boss, we are always looking for ways to protect our clients and this is just one other thing that we have identified that is a potential threat to firearms dealers like you.

If you follow these best practices as described, you will have a much better chance of not losing huge amounts of money on sales that are deemed to be fraud.
